Stone Chestnut

The Stone Chestnut is a very unique home.  Designed to be one of the first Luxury Green Homes built in America.  It earned the the first 3 GreenLeaf Award from Audubon International, one of the early green building certification companies.  It was entered into Charlotte’s annual Luxury Showcase, “Homearama.”  Earning many awards for Interior Design, Floor Plan, but especially winning for Most Innovative for E.S. Johnson’s use of reclaimed wood throughout the home.

This High Country Craftsman home was designed for a lot that dropped 25′ in elevation.  Its views were expansive and the trees large giving the home designer a unique opportunity.  The large overhangs, heavy stone accents and cedar shake siding / roofing gave this home its rustic personality.  The interior’s use wormy chestnut in flooring and wainscoting continued the rustic trait as your entered the home.  Leatherfloors, marble baths, alder trim, poplar siding laced walls and hand carve mantles made this truly remarkable home.
